Meet the Group's Co-Leaders
Where Do Black Women Go to Grieve is a support group working to normalize mental health in the black and brown community. Founded in 2015 by Espy Thomas, the meetings are held at her family's bakery, Sweet Potato Sensations. This culturally specific grief support group is the first of it's kind. The bi-weekly meetings provide grief support services in a group setting for those that have experienced a traumatic loss (or living loss) and are working to pick up the pieces. It's a safe and sacred space for women of color to unapologetically learn, embrace and navigate their new normal of life without someone they love. The facilitators believe this type of wellness should be accessible to everyone. They work to lower the barriers to wellness and to change the stigma of what counseling and mental health look like in the Black Community.
